How to Help Unemployed Friends and Family

It’s not only the laid off people who are struggling these days – it’s their families and friends too! Sure, it’s tough for the person who lost their job, but those who live with and care for an unemployed person are also suffering. They don’t know how to help. They’re trying to be supportive. They’re not sure what to do.

  • Should they slip the want ads under the dinner plate?
  • Is it helpful to tell them about every networking event in town?
  • When does “help” turn into nagging?
  • How can they offer support when they’re not sure how to really help?
  • Which books should they buy or websites should they recommend?
  • What do they do if their loved one has reached the point of giving up?

All these questions and more face those who care about the unemployed worker. So I’m hoping we can help them.

- Do you have a comment or suggestion to offer? Are YOU unemployed and know exactly what helps and what doesn’t?

- Can you point your friends to this blog post and ask them to submit a list through comments?

I think it would help a great many people, so thank you in advance for spreading the word and adding your thoughts below!
